Comprehensive Guide to Fig Tree Cultivation – Part 2

Comprehensive Guide to Fig Tree Cultivation – Part 2

Precise Timing for Planting Fig Trees

It is very important to coordinate planting with the natural growth cycle of the tree.

The best time to plant fig trees is from the first week of Esfand to the first half of Farvardin (approximately until April 2).

Golden Tip: For planting fig trees, the cutting propagation process should be carried out before the fig trees begin to “Rataj” (bud break and sprouting). However, please note that planting should not be carried out on rainy days or when the soil is excessively loose, wet, and sticky.

Standards for Digging Planting Pits

The dimensions of the planting pit directly affect the growth rate of the tree. The larger the pit, the faster the tree will generally grow.

Standard dimensions: Dig a rectangular pit approximately 45 cm wide, 85 cm long, and 130 cm deep.

Pit shape: It is preferable for the pit to be rectangular, with a narrower opening at the top and a wider bottom.

Planting distance: The standard distance between planting pits is approximately 10 meters (20–25 feet). Maintaining an appropriate distance allows the trees to develop better, form a strong structure, and achieve excellent fruit production.

In rainfed cultivation, the bottom of the planting pit should be below ground level so that it can effectively collect and retain rainwater.

Golden Tip: Following these standards and requirements when planting fig trees will promote proper tree development and lead to higher yields.
